Macrame made of plastic cord with added silicone tubes to create a 3D surface |
This week I have
been thinking about order vs chaos whilst sampling, inspired by my research for
CP3. The patterns and rhythms in our environment can sometimes feel chaotic and
unstructured, and I am interested in where we find or create order to make
sense of it all.
I had a rubber
hose and found that it moved in a very chaotic and unpredictable way. So I cut
it up and stitched the pieces back together at the base to try and create some
order, but the top I left loose to keep the movement of the rubber. This piece
could be applied to the body as possibly as piece of concept inspired jewellery
or body adornment.
I have also been
investigating how to connect elements together to create a surface without a
solid grounding and thought Macrame could be good to try out after researching
Sophie Wallace's work. Kim is also interested in this
technique so this week we did a quick Macrame workshop using a tutorial Kim
found in a magazine. Instead of tying knots in yarn I decided to use pvc tubes
to hold the plastic cord in place. This worked well an I even found that the
sample could expand and contract like my piping sample.
