Expand and Contract

Cocoons by Jennie Pineus- 'an anti stress concept'
My research into things that expand and contract has lead me to the idea of something that expands or transforms in order to regain personal space. Thinking about rhythm and repetition in day to day life, sometimes these can feel as if they go too fast or out of our control. Living in the city, I definitely feel sometimes that my personal space becomes intruded or the city rhythm goes a little too fast for me. Jennie Pineus' Cocoon challenges these rhythms suggesting a way to take time out.

This is a fun, simple solution to take a few minutes out of the rhythm of life and relax, any time anywhere. It also demands privacy in a world where we are in the public eye constantly due to social media. I am interested in this kind of work that crosses between conceptual art and design, that provides a function as a solution to a problem.
