This week I went
back on to the laser cutter to try out different materials and templates. After
cutting into a variety of materials such as clear pvc, PU coated fabric,
rubber sheet, spacer fabric and neoprene, I think the blue coated tarpaulin and
the neoprene react best to the design. And by altering the width and length of
the incisions, I feel I am beginning to get a good understanding of how they
affect the movement of the surface. One blue tarpaulin sample I left a wider
gap between incisions making the surface spring back into place after expanding
like elastic, which is really exciting. It really pulls back after being
stretched, almost like it doesn’t want to be pulled apart.
